  • Admissions are pre-planned.
  • The management team of Browning House welcomes initial telephone enquiries from professionals to discuss potential placements.
  • Flexible packages of assessment are offered, which may include Day or Residential assessment, Community assessment or individual sessional work and/or supervised contact assessments to meet the needs of the family and referral agent. Packages are costed according to requirements.
  • A referral form must be completed and returned to us; this can be affected through the web site www.browninghouse.co.uk or a referral form can be posted or faxed to the referral agent.
  • Leave to have any documentation in relation to the family is required by this Unit prior to admission. This and the referral form enables us to assess the suitability of the family for placement and tailor a package of support to meet each individual’s specific needs.
  • All referrals are given consideration. Browning House will endeavour to work with all parents and their children.
  • Before a family is admitted to the Unit they and the referral agent are invited to visit. This provides an opportunity for parents to look around and meet the staff. It also helps the parents and us decide if we can work together.
  • At this meeting Browning House, the family and the referral agent will discuss the Unit’s Placement Plan; if everyone is happy with this it is signed by all parties.
  • It is important that written confirmation of the authorisation of funding is obtained prior to the start of the placement. A form for completion will be provided by Browning House.
  • When a vacancy becomes available, the referring agent will be contacted and a date for admission will be agreed.
  • Browning House can work with families with drug and alcohol addictions. Parents must be committed to becoming drug free and actively participating in a rehabilitation programme.
  • Browning House can work with families who have previously presented a risk of violence. A risk assessment will be completed prior to a placement being offered; should the risk be unmanageable a placement will not be considered.
  • Browning House can work with parents with mental health difficulties and learning difficulties. A risk assessment will be completed prior to a placement being offered to ensure Browning House can meet their individual needs.
  • Parents must be willing to work with Browning House staff.
  • Where situations arise during an assessment that place the safety of a child, other families, parents or staff at risk, an individual’s placement will be reviewed with the referral agent with a view to ending the assessment. Should a parent’s behaviour pose an unmanageable risk they will be asked to leave the Unit immediately.
Please note: Where the word family/parent is used this means mother, father or couple.
