Baby Communication & Massage PDF Print E-mail

Baby Communication and Massage sessions are held on a weekly basis in the Unit’s nursery.  They are led by members of the Child Development Team who encourage parents to get to know their children through touch. Touch is like talk, so massage becomes a wonderful form of communication. Many of the children who come to Browning House with their parents have spent some time in foster care. Because of this and other experiences, parents sometimes find it difficult to bond with their children. With the guidance of staff our Baby Communication and Massage sessions help to strengthen the bond between a parent and child who have previously not been able to get to know each other.

Parents are shown by example how to talk to their babies and encouraged to use good eye contact and gentle touch. This is often the first opportunity parents have had to get to know and enjoy their child.

Our residents have commented:

“It seemed really good for babies, quality time for parents and baby, time to chill out and bond. I didn’t know I was going to enjoy it as much”.

“It gives babies and parents time in a relaxed area to discover new ways of stimulating babies – and a free brew and chocolate biscuit at the end”.

Please note: Where the word family/parent is used this means mother, father or couple.
